October 30th, 2024
THE THICKET is a gritty Western that features an undeniable Oscar-worthy performance by Juliette Lewis. Her character-defining portrayal elevates her career and reminds us that she is truly THAT ACTOR, and always has been. Peter Dinklage delivers a consistently powerful performance as Reginald Jones, a bounty hunter. Dinklage remains one of the best actors of his generation, well-versed in Shakespearean drama, poetry, musical theatre, and now, westerns. He leaves a lasting impression in every role, demonstrating a remarkable mastery of dialect in this film that serves as a masterclass in acting.
In a series of events based on the 2013 novel by Joe R. Lansdale, Jack Parker (Levon Hawke) finds himself in his worst nightmare when his sister, Lula (Esme Creed-Miles), is abducted by Cut Throat Bill (Juliette Lewis). Cut Throat Bill showcases an intricate personality and unpredictability, leaving audiences questioning whether she is a hero or a villain. Cut Throat Bill is feared by all men, but there's an intriguing, unexplored side to her—a sensitivity and protectiveness toward women. This is particularly highlighted in a scene where she intervenes to save Lula from being assaulted by her own men.
When Lewis and Dinklage share the screen, it marks a commendable step forward for Tubi, with potential nominations on the horizon for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actress for Juliette Lewis.
